While the dark can be very scary, just like everything else, there is a use for it. I had no idea there was three different types of internet. There are only two that really ever stood out to me: the internet and the dark web. The deep web was never really on my radar.
Phishing scams, identity fraud, stolen bank account information, are things very common to the average person. Almost everyone is a victim or knows someone who was a victim of one of these cyber attacks.. It boggles my mind that someone was able to make make 200 bitcoin, which is equivalent to $3,528,480, just off of the scams on the internet.
The language breakdown on the dark web was a shock. The dark web is 86% in English. There was an expectation that there was a going to be a greater variation of languages than on the regular internet. It definitely makes me wonder how one ends up in such places, but not enough to really start investigating.
The internet holds a lot of secrets. A lot of your own information is out there for the taking. Will this stop me from using the internet? Absolutely not. There are many pros and cons to the internet, and the pros definitely outweigh the cons. It is ironic that when someone steals your information, you call a number that you found on the internet, where the person on the other side of the phone uses the internet to stop them. Cyber security is a very up and coming field. Without the individuals doing illegal things there would be less jobs in the world; if you want to look at it that way.
