The Veldt

This is definitely not what I expected when I started reading. The ending was a definite surprise; this is not the family dynamic that people usually read about or search for. If this is what the future holds then I do not want it.

In the future, things will be different, but this family’s house did everything for them down to tying their shoes. It reminded me a little of the Disney movie “Wall-E” where the humans were carried around all day in hover chairs and did nothing for themselves. The children in this story seemed very entitled and did not know what it was like to live a normal life.

The nursery would change settings due to the child’s thoughts. The parents wanted to shut it down due to the reoccurring images of lions attacking and eating people. Personally, I wouldn’t want my kids having that imagination constantly either. Long story short, the children don’t want the parents to turn all the electronics off in the house so they feed them to the lions.

This turns out to be a really toxic relationship between parent and child. The kids murder their own parents just so they can keep the life their accustomed to. It definitely paints a picture of how life could turn out very bad if electronics take over. It shows how there is a gap between the old and the new generation espericially when it comes to electronics.
